About Us

The History of Wichita Optometry, P.A.

Our practice has a long history of providing quality, personalized eye care in the Wichita community for over 100 years.

Dr. Byron Babb started the practice after graduating from Needles Institute in Chicago, IL and founded this practice at Douglas and Seneca in 1920. Dr. Babb's son, Dr. Dean L. Babb, joined the practice in 1951 after graduating from the Illinois College of Optometry (which was previously called Needles Institute). The practice moved to its present Douglas location in June of 1971 - the same year that Dr. Byron retired.

In 1976, Dr. Ronald D. Fisher graduated from the University of Houston, College of Optometry and joined the practice. Dr. Dean retired in 1990 and Dr. Fisher practiced solo for a period of time. Dr. Jeffrey H. Yarrow, who graduated from the University of Houston, College of Optometry in 1992 joined Dr. Fisher in 1993. Then in August of 2002, Dr. Chadwin L. Fleming joined Wichita Optometry. Dr. Fleming is a graduate of Oklahoma College of Optometry in Tahlequah, OK. Dr. Ashley M. Blasi joined Wichita Optometry in September of 2010. She is a 2008 graduate of Southern College of Optometry. On July 1, 2014, Wichita Optometry purchased the optometry practice of Dr. Wade Dulin. The practice remains at the same location, 2330 N. Amidon, and operates as a 2nd location for Wichita Optometry. Dr. Drew M. Heide joined Wichita Optometry in August of 2014. He is a 2014 graduate of Oklahoma College of Optometry in Tahlequah, OK. Dr. Melia Nguyen joined Wichita Optometry in October of 2017. She graduated from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA, in 2013 with her Doctorate of Optometry degree. Wichita Optometry acquired Wichita Vision Care and Mulvane Vision Care in June 2018. Both practices remain at the same original location. Dr. Kevin B. Cline and Dr. Amy R. Goertz joined Wichita Optometry at the time of the acquisition. Dr. Cline attended Oklahoma College of Optometry in Tahlequah, OK and graduated in 1989. Dr. Goertz is a 2004 graduate of University of Missouri - St. Louis College of Optometry.

Our Doctors are members of the American Optometric Association, the Kansas Optometric Association, the Wichita Optometric Society, and the Eye Care Council. They are all fully licensed and practice to the extent of Kansas law to diagnose, treat, and manage vision and ocular health conditions. They remain committed to the same philosophy the Babb's held - quality eye care with personal time and availability for every individual patient.
